New iPhone Operating System - iOS 4

Apple's iOS 4 software promises 100 new features for owners of the iPhone 3GS, released last June, including the ability to multitask, or run more than one app at once. It also lets you take control of the growing inventory of apps by organizing them into folders.

The software is being released today in advance of Thursday's 7 a.m. launch of the new iPhone 4.

Nokia Sues Apple Over iPhone

Nokia is suing Apple over the alleged infringement of patents held by the Finnish handset maker pertaining to WLAN, GSM and UMTS.

The ten patents in suit relate to technologies fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and wireless LAN standards. The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.

“The basic principle in the mobile industry is that those companies who contribute in technology development to establish standards create intellectual property, which others then need to compensate for,” said Ilkka Rahnasto, Vice President, Legal & Intellectual Property at Nokia. “Apple is also expected to follow this principle. By refusing to agree appropriate terms for Nokia’s intellectual property, Apple is attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia’s innovation.”

Orange To Help iPhone

In the latest agreement to put the iPhone in the hands of international users, France's Orange said Friday that it has signed a deal to offer the popular smart phone in parts of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

In a brief statement, Orange said it will supply the iPhone in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and its African markets later this year.

Earlier this month, Telecom Italia said it had signed a deal to bring the iPhone to Italy. Vodafone also said it had secured the iPhone for its customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey.

Also this month, Mexico's America Movil, which has 159.2 million wireless subscribers, said it plans to offer the iPhone to its Latin American audience later this year. Last month, Rogers Communications announced a partnership to supply iPhones to its Canadian customers.

Some observers speculate that Apple could soon release the next generation of the iPhone, which will run on the faster, newest cell phone technology known as 3G. The company said this week that Jobs will be speaking at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, when he could presumably make such an announcement.

Apple also plans to release new software next month for the iPhone, which will make it better suited for corporate users and offer new programs, such as mobile games designed for its touch-screen and motion-sensing interface.

Samsung Armani P520

Samsung and Armani have teamed up for the very first time to strike the fashion-phone market and they’ve succeeded if you ask me- with style. The SGH-P520 Samsung Armani phone will sport an array of features and specs that easily place it above the LG Prada and Apple iPhone.

The P520 is a triband GSM with EDGE phone, measuring at 88 x 54 x 8.9mm. It boasts a 262k colour QVGA touchscreen, a 3-megapixel camera with video recording, microSD card slot, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Not bad at all...

As always, fashion comes at a price with the Samsung Armani P520 being roughly 400 euros for the lucky europeans. That’s about $600, which isn’t exactly a bargain. In fact, calling it a pricey phone for its specs would be a definite understatement.

“The company is going to make a new category called ‘IT luxury products’ jointly with Armani. The Armani phone will be launched in Europe in October and we plan to expand the brand to other businesses as well.”

The Samsung Croix

The Samsung Croix has a brand new touch screen, the interface that this new cell phone uses in called Croix which means cross in French. The Samsung Croix has started its early like well by winning an iF Communication Design Award 2007. Although Samsung have said that the new Samsung Croix will do battle with the iPhone, it is not known how long we will have to wait until Samsung release their new touch screen mobile phone. But one thing is certain the interface is very clean and easy to use, so let us hope that this will give them a fighting chance against the Apple iPhone.

The Nokia iPhone

The Nokia iPhone was dropped on the world during the launch of the 8 GB Nokia N95 and the N81, if you look at the video clip below you will see what we mean by “direct copy of Apple’s phone”.

It looks not only sleek but a direct copy of the Apple iPhone and we are sure the Apple lawyers might also be interested.




After watching the video you will also noticed that the interface is just like the iPhones, but to add to the fire is what Nokia’s Executive VP (Anssi Vanjoki) said at a Q&A session, “If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride”.

That does make sense, but can they really do that?

Nokia may be aiming to take the best of the most hyped phone in history (The iPhone) and also improve on the weaknesses like its slow internet connection speeds, locked to one network, poor camera and high price.

Expect the Nokia iPhone to have HSDPA, a least a 5 megapixel camera (like the N95) and the launch date should be in 2008.

The New iMac

Apple Inc. updated its iMac computers Tuesday with a slimmer design, faster chips and glossy screens, hoping to further propel sales that already outpace the rest of the PC industry.

The all-in-one desktop computers now have aluminum casings, replacing the white plastic facade that has defined the computer lineup for years. The new iMacs will come in only 20-inch and 24-inch versions.

With starting prices at $1,199 and $1,799, respectively, the computers are also $200 to $300 cheaper than their predecessors.

Analysts have been anticipating an iMac revamp for some time from the trendsetting company. Apple last introduced a new iMac in September 2006 when it debuted the large 24-inch model.

The success of the iPod, Apple's retail stores and the company's switch to Intel-based computer chips have all helped boost the Macintosh maker's computer sales and profits to record levels. In recent quarters, Apple's sales have been growing three times faster than the rest of the PC industry.
