Google TV Is Real (?)

A clip posted to YouTube by tech tutorial channel Infinite Solutions on Friday told viewers they could access high-quality US network TV shows as part of a private test by repeatedly logging in and out of Gmail. Cynical net stalwarts immediately mocked the suggestion that the search giant would employ such arcane beta test methods. But others countered with blog posts and video responses to claim they had indeed successfully found Google TV by following the instructions.

Tutorial host Mark Erickson has posted previous tongue-in-cheek instructional videos, one suggesting users can extend their WiFi range by wrapping their Ethernet cable around a mobile phone.

Many Google watchers have said the latest episode is a hoax because no DNS entry exists for the address given by Erickson, tv.google.com. It would also buck the trend of previous Google beta tests; Gmail was made available via invitation, for example.

If fake, the video would represent not just a grand hoax but a testing of the response to any future possible such launch from Google. It is also a lesson in viral communication for many marketers.

The clip was viewed more than 100,000 times over the weekend, causing thousands of people to log in and out of their email accounts, some hundreds of times, in a desperate attempt to access the service.

Profitng And Benefiting From Wordpress Ella

Wordpress Logo Pictures

The "Wordpress" developer team has successfully launched their latest
version of Wordpress, called "Wordpress Ella". Numerically, the version number is called version 2.1

To the uninitiated, news like this seems like a normal announcement from software developers and are often passed on by. However, from the eyes of a trained mind and savvy businessman, the news of "Wordpress Ella" contain many benefits that online business owners can immediately tap into and profit from.

"Wordpress Ella" comes with the following enhancements which are a great resource for online business owners.

1. First on the list of enhancements from Wordpress Ella is an 'autosave' function that ensures you will never lose a post again. This is an invaluable tool especially at times when you have spent a lot of time in front of your computer screen, brainstorming on what to write to promote your business.

Imagine the horror or frustration especially in instances where the battery of your notebook died and you forgot to save. Or perhaps there was a blackout or you accidentally closed the browser window without saving your work.

"Wordpress Ella" autosave function is a real time saver and is an abosolute must for any online businesses.

2. Next in line on "Wordpress Ella" is the "Import" and "Export" functions. Let's talk about the import function first.

The latest release of "Wordpress Ella" has an import function that allows you to import your blog created from other popular blogging platforms such as 'Movable Type', 'Typepad', 'Livejournal', 'Blogger' and so on, into Wordpress itself.

This way, you don't have to lose any important data such as your blog posts and comments. This flexibility is another reason why Wordpress itself is so successful and continues to gain a huge following and user base.

Why would anyone want to transfer their blog from another platform to Wordpress? Well, one reason is because with most of these other blogging platforms, the user has to pay a monthly fee. Wordpress, as almost everyone knows is free, and you can easily install with a few clicks using Fantastico from within your hosting account's Cpanel.

Another reason to migrate or transfer the entire blog to Wordpress could be due to the limitation of some blogging platforms. Blogger, for example does not support the use of categories, which are critical when it comes to optimizing the blog to rank high for specific keywords related to the business.

Now, let's discuss about the "Export" function.

"Export" as the name implies, will export all the Wordpress posts and comments into a file (called XML). This file can then be imported into other Wordpress blogs. It's like a cross transferring of data between similar or related "Wordpress Blogs".

This is useful when one is starting a new blog and perhaps need to populate the blog with useful content instead of just displaying news feed. For example, if you have a blog on muscle building, and you started a new blog on weight loss, you can import the content (which are the posts and comments) from the muscle blog into the weight loss blog.

This way, when you drive traffic to your new weight loss blog, you can at least provide the reader with some useful content while you build up the content around weight loss. Naturally there is some correlation between these two topics. After all, if you want to build muscle, naturally you need to burn off the excess fats and turn them into muscles!

3. Another enhancement of "Wordpress Ella" is the new search engine privacy. What this means is that you can indicate whether you'd like your blog to be indexed or ping by search engines, especially Google, Yahoo or MSN, which are the three top search engines online.

Most experienced marketers know about the pinging power of blogs. Everytime when a post is published, Wordpress will ping or notify specific blog directories about updates to your blog, causing them to index or visit your blog, brining you that additional and much needed targeted traffic.

As crazy as it sounds, considering that most business owners would like to get their site listed in the search engines, there are also times when you might want to hide or mask your blog from the radar screen of search engines. This is true especially in cases where it's only meant for paid customers only. For example, you might be providing some sensitive information meant for paid customers and you don't want anyone doing a search on the search engines to stumble upon your blog and have access to the information.

4. Another powerful upgrade that "Wordpress Ella" brings is the ability to specify a static page as the front page for your site or blog.

Most savvy marketers employ the use of a mini site or a one page only sales letter when marketing their products or services. Normally such one page sites will also contain an opt-in box, where visitors and readers are enticed to provide their email address in exchange for a free gift, software, e-course etc.

When they do so, they will normally be enrolled in an autoresponder course that automatically does the follow-up with the said subscriber which either results in a sale or no sale.

With a blog, however, the main page or the front page will always a display of the latest chronological posts. You can create pages for a blog, however, in the past it was not that easy for the layman to do so.

With "Wordpress Ella", all you need to do if you want a static front page is to select this option in the Wordpress control panel. It can't get any easier than this.

These are just some of the enhancements that you can immediately benefit from "Wordpress Ella".

This article assumes you already have some basic knowledge about the marketing power of blogs in terms of its syndication power, targeted traffic and search engine optimization capability for keywords.

If you're totally new to blogs or perhaps would like to learn more about how your business can profit from blogs or the latest enhancements from Wordpress Ella, visit Wordpress Videos immediately.

YouYube Is In Trouble

Hollywood.Com reports that due to someone illegally uploading entire episodes of 24, Twenty Century Fox is cracking down on YouTube.

Twentieth Century Fox has issued a legal summons to video Web site YouTube, after one of its users illegally uploaded entire episodes of hit TV show 24 before they were premiered on networks. Jane Sunderland, vice president of Fox entertainment group, believes the offending material--which includes 12 episodes of The Simpsons--could cause the company "irreparable harm."
She admits Fox is unable to determine the users' identities without the help of YouTube and LiveDigital--a smaller video content site--and a subpoena against the two companies was filed last week.

The 24 episodes appeared on YouTube prior to their primetime Jan. 14 premiere on the Fox broadcast network. Fox became aware the episodes were on YouTube six days earlier, according to the subpoena.

YouTube and other similar video-sharing sites normally inform content providers they will delete copy-written material when alerted by the relevant parties.

Ricoh New Digital Camera - Ready GPS

High-resolution Rugged Camera Optimizes GIS Mapping Workflows
Ricoh

Ricoh Corporation, a leader in business solutions, solidified its leadership position in providing cameras with integrated GPS technology by releasing the 500SE GPS-ready digital camera today. Developed for outdoor location-based photography, the 500SE boasts extreme ruggedization and high resolution to meet the image quality and all-weather usability demanded by the mobile GPS photographer. The camera's integrated precision GPS module provides for an all-in-one, easy- to-use device for geo-coding images and video at the time of capture. For applications that require even greater precision, the camera is capable of receiving NMEA data streams from external GPS devices via its on-board Bluetooth(R) radio.

"Ricoh's design philosophy is to produce cameras that meet the unique needs of its target markets, and the 500SE was specifically designed to optimize map-based workflows. It provides the definitive process to easily integrate location-based multimedia files into mapping software and overcomes all of the detriments found in other methods of associating pictures or videos with a point on a map," said Jeff Lengyel, Manager, Ricoh Digital Imaging Division.

Once the captured "geo-images" and "geo-video" files are transferred to a PC, they are automatically converted to shape files or merged into geo- databases for instant integration into Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Points representing each file's position may be hovered over to display a thumbnail of the file, or clicked on to access the original image or video.

In addition to storing GPS data in the image and video files, the camera also utilizes a user-configurable "data dictionary" to tag files with workflow-related information. These attributes become part of the GIS layer table for automated database integration.

The 500SE's waterproof and shock-resistant shell protects a high- resolution 8MP sensor that is image stabilized and has an ultra rapid shutter response. Additional features include GPS track log capability, GPS lock (to record the position of an object as opposed to the position of the photographer), and the ability to send images wirelessly to handheld devices via Bluetooth(R) or WiFi.(R)

The 500SE is available from Authorized Ricoh Geo-Imaging resellers. To find a reseller, or to learn more about the 500SE, please visit: http://www.ricohsolutions.com/geo/.

Nintendo Wins Emmy Award

Nintendo Wii
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has awarded Nintendo an Emmy Award for its invention of the plus-shaped D-pad, one in a long string of Nintendo's controller innovations. The award was presented in recognition of the technological achievement of the D-pad, which radically changed how people interact with their video games and, by extension, their televisions. Nintendo received the award in Las Vegas during the Technological & Engineering Emmy Awards, which kicked off this week's Consumer Electronics Show.
The D-pad first debuted on the controllers for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, and has been standard on all video games controllers ever since. The D-pad replaced joysticks and represented an early example of how Nintendo was willing to shake up the status quo in the search for a better gaming experience.

"Nintendo has long been a pioneer in the way that people interact with their games," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "Our commitment to pushing the envelope continues today with our motion-sensitive Wii Remote controllers, which again rewrite the rules. We are grateful for this award and thank the academy for the honor."

BM Releases Lotus Notes for the Mac

Mac users will be able to ring in the New Year knowing that IBM's Lotus Notes 7.0.2 client is now available for Mac OS X, offering enterprise users instant messaging, presence awareness, and Web 2.0 tools such as RSS technology and a blogging template. These Notes functions are already available for users of Linux and Windows operating systems.

Although Lotus Notes is primarily an enterprise tool, and Apple's Mac is mostly used by businesses in the limited sphere of art and publishing departments, the move will likely help consolidate the overlap many Mac diehards face.

The IBM release is also expected to help Apple garner more of the corporate desktop installed base, as the Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple tries to slug it out with Microsoft for more enterprise accounts.

Features
Today's rollout, combined with the Mac support included in the September's release of IBM Lotus Domino Web Access 7.0.2, now appears to have placed Mac customers on even footing with IBM's Windows and Linux clients who use Notes.

In addition to enhancing collaboration through integrated instant messaging for Mac users, the software increases "presence awareness" by allowing users to communicate in real time across an enterprise from within Notes e-mail, calendar and contacts, according to IBM.

"Lotus Domino Web Access 7.0.2 will gives users all kinds of features and capabilities they've never had," Jason Dumont, IBM senior product manager, said in a statement.

IBM Gives Apple a Boost

Among the new capabilities detailed are security features like S/MIME-based encryption, secure log-off and the ability of users to change their own passwords, as well as everyday productivity enhancers like spell-checking, unread marks, out-of-office agents, according to IBM.

For Mac users, the Lotus Notes 7.0.2 client is a step up from the Web-based Lotus Domino messaging and capabilities they've had to date. Previously Mac users searching for a Web-based experience used the Lotus Domino WebMail template, which is based on dated Web technologies and offers only limited messaging functionality and performance.

Lotus Notes 7.0.2 for the Mac is available immediately, and will cost enterprise customers $101 per seat. [Source]
