The sensitive issue on privacy spark several changes especially to the popular companies such as Facebook. Now, in response to such privacy clamour Google have also made some adjustments on their different features especially the one that incorporates javascript code to gather data and that is Google’s Analytics feature. Google analytics inserts javascript code to a target website and such code would gather information about the user, information such as location or geographic information, type of connection, duration of site browsing and even the type of browser the user is utilising. Although such information may not be pertaining specifically to intrusion of privacy some users may still find it to be intrusive since google analytics has the capability of gathering data on the user’s IP address which is a form of discerning the geolocation of the user.

Google thus incorporated a Google analytics opt-out browser add-on which is designed to stop specific data flow for the users’ computer that is browsing a site that incorporates the google analytics code. This browser feature can now block Google analytics or the javascript code inserted in the website to gather information about the site visitor and this browser feature is currently available as an add-on only for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet explorer browsers. In addition to this new feature Google also have added a tweak on their Google Analytics JavaScript code one which would make the visitors anonymous by stripping down the last octet of the visitors’ IP address.

Google to Enable Music Searches

Google Inc. will launch music search pages next week and include ways for consumers to buy songs for download, according to people familiar with the matter.

The music pages will package images of musicians and bands, album artwork, links to news, lyrics, videos and song previews, along with a way to buy songs, they said.

Gmail for Mobile 2.0

Google on Thursday announced that it has launched Gmail for Mobile 2.0 for J2ME-supported devices such as the Nokia N95, as well as BlackBerry phones.

Gmail for Mobile 2.0 offers the option to save multiple e-mail drafts in the phone and adds shortcut keys that enable users of phones equipped with QWERTY keyboards to press 'z' to undo, 'k' to go to a newer conversation, and 'j' to go to an older conversation.

Google Now Opens AdSense To Third-Party Ads

Google on Monday said it is now accepting third-party ads on the Google content network in North America.

The change comes because Google now has a process to review third-party ads to make sure they comply with the company's format and content policies.

For Google and its AdSense publishers, this means a larger advertising inventory and the potential to earn more money through the placement of those ads. For advertisers, this means that ad campaigns can be managed using a consistent software application, whether it's provided by Google or another ad serving company.

Because third-party ads could include malicious content, Google is requiring ad providers to be certified in order to serve ads on its network.

The following companies have been certified so far: 1) Advertiser ad servers: DoubleClick (DFA) and Mediaplex; 2) Rich media agencies: DoubleClick Rich Media, Eyeblaster, EyeWonder, Interpolls, PointRoll, and Unicast; 3) Research firms: Dynamic Logic, IAG Research, InsightExpress, and Factor TG.

A Google spokesperson said that the company had discussed certification with Atlas representatives and that Atlas could be certified at some point in the future. The spokesperson said she could not comment on possible inclusion of ads served by Yahoo.

Google TV Is Real (?)

A clip posted to YouTube by tech tutorial channel Infinite Solutions on Friday told viewers they could access high-quality US network TV shows as part of a private test by repeatedly logging in and out of Gmail. Cynical net stalwarts immediately mocked the suggestion that the search giant would employ such arcane beta test methods. But others countered with blog posts and video responses to claim they had indeed successfully found Google TV by following the instructions.

Tutorial host Mark Erickson has posted previous tongue-in-cheek instructional videos, one suggesting users can extend their WiFi range by wrapping their Ethernet cable around a mobile phone.

Many Google watchers have said the latest episode is a hoax because no DNS entry exists for the address given by Erickson, tv.google.com. It would also buck the trend of previous Google beta tests; Gmail was made available via invitation, for example.

If fake, the video would represent not just a grand hoax but a testing of the response to any future possible such launch from Google. It is also a lesson in viral communication for many marketers.

The clip was viewed more than 100,000 times over the weekend, causing thousands of people to log in and out of their email accounts, some hundreds of times, in a desperate attempt to access the service.
